Channels Executive

Full Time

Channels Executive is required for a permanent role, paying £30,614.33 plus £2835.11 London Allowance (for London-based candidates only) per annum, with British Transport Police (BTP).

As a flexible organisation, we are open to discussing a flexible work pattern. You will need to be based at one of our regional hubs (Camden, London/Birmingham/Manchester/Leeds/Cardiff/Glasgow) ideally once a week.

BTP is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Channels Executive with BTP, you will have responsibility for creating, editing and publishing content on the intranet and oversee all content management whilst helping to manage governance of the site, including publishing permissions.

As Channels Executive, you will be required to:

  • Provide a first class internal communications service - you'll always be looking for new innovative ways to reach out to our people, basing your decisions on sound understanding that's backed up by analysis and evaluation.
  • Ensure intranet and other channels content is regularly updated, accurate, relevant and varied in line with the Force’s Channels Matrix, and advise colleagues on how best to reach their audience.
  • Design, coordinate and maintain a Channels Dashboard (monthly) that captures channels reach and engagement, in order to inform strategy and advise senior leaders on communications strategies.
  • Use analytics to monitor hits, comments, audience sentiment, engagement and evaluate reader interest.
  • Create content – this could be written copy, video editing or event logistics/content - to promote important BTP stories in conjunction with strategic and operational priorities.
  • Build a network across the organisation to encourage people to share their local stories, explain who they are as people and the jobs they do, and celebrate the diversity or our workforce.
  • Promote and establish links to external articles and campaigns and social media releases

The successful Channels Executive will be required to evidence the following:

  • Significant experience (18+ months) writing and editing using Content Management Systems (CMS), preferably SharePoint or another intranet provider/plug-in.
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail and sound grammatical knowledge, as well as the ability to write in a variety of styles and to edit the contribution of others.
  • Sound experience of using Office 365 in particular Forms, Excel Teams, PowerPoint and Word. Experience of Yammer would be beneficial.
  • Photography, design and video-editing skills.
  • Basic Photoshop skills.
  • Demonstrable interest and knowledge in corporate intranets, online content, social media and development.
  • Sound editorial judgment when sourcing and creating content.
  • A good understanding of the web design/development process and technical constraints.
  • Keen interest in online content with a deep understanding of channels management techniques.
  • Desirable - A qualification in one of the following: IOIC Foundation, Diploma Of Proficiency In Internal Communication, IABC Foundation, IABC Generalist/Specialist, CIPR Internal, Communications certificate, Melcrum – Black Belt 1.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised. Internal candidates must have completed their probation for their current substantive posting and can only apply in tenure if Head of Department approval is emailed to prior to the vacancy closing.
