Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) is required for a Permanent, Part-time role paying £30,614.33 (Pro-rata salary £15,307.17) per annum, with the British Transport Police (BTP) based at FHQ with a requirement to travel for Site Visits, primarily along the Greater Anglia route.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) with BTP you will support the British Transport Police (BTP) strategy by delivering a designing out crime service to reduce crime occurring on the railway, to reduce disruption to the railway network and to increase passenger confidence across the transport network.

 

As a Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) you will be required to:

  • Where appropriate, liaise with Network Rail (NR), Train Operating Companies (TOCs), Government agencies such as the Department for Transport (DfT), London Underground Ltd (LUL), Transport for London (TfL), statutory and public bodies and their planners, developers, architects, surveyors and engineers to provide specialist advice, guidance and promote the provision of crime reduction and prevention measures within designs for buildings and other environmental developments
  • Proactively support and promote the development and implementation of crime reduction activities across the railway network
  • Carry out a site visit following every fatality or serious injury on the railway and make recommendations aimed at preventing future loss of life and injuries at the same location
  • Research and prepare detailed reports and supporting media where appropriate, including surveys, briefing papers, meeting minutes and other responses to requests for information or advice from internal and external stakeholders or customers.
  • Assess and accredit rail operators under the Secure Stations Scheme (DfT) and Safer Car Park Scheme (BPA).

  • Have completed or are willing to undertake Level 5 Diploma in Designing Out Crime.
  • Proven ability to negotiate, influence and develop strong working relationships both internally and externally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver persuasive presentations to varied technical, professional and non-technical audiences
  • Computer literate and proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
