British Transport Police are looking to recruit a Resource Planning Manager on a 12 month fixed term contract in Manchester paying up to Â£32,757.33 per annum.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As a Resource Planning Manager with BTP, you will play a key part in keeping the travelling public safe by ensuring our Police Officers and Support Staff are in the right place at the right time to serve the Public.  Your role will vary from resourcing high profile events, protests, football (both club and international fixtures) to maintaining 24-hour cover across the UK rail network.   

The Force Resource Planning Unit is co-located based in both Manchester & Glasgow.   We are operational 7 days per week covering 0700-1900 each day.  As a Resource Planning Manager your working hours will be rostered to support the operational cover with a blended approach between office based and home-based working. Whilst we offer a blended working approach you will be required to work from our Manchester location on a rota basis. 

As Resource Planning Manager you will be required to:

  • Manage the FRPU Resource Planners, communicating and addressing performance and development 
  • Provide ongoing feedback, guidance and support to the Force Resource Planning Unit
  • Manage and quality assure all work produced by the Force Resource Planning Unit
  • Follow direction, information and intelligence by the Force Resource Lead and Division Leadership Teams to oversee all rostering requirements to an efficient, effective and high standard
  • Plan and coordinate team meetings 
  • Help identify changes, trends and development across the industry

  • Experience working in an operational or resource planning environment 
  • Successful track record of managing a team
  • Experience of managing workflow 
  • Experience of mentoring, delegating and coaching 
  • Experience of developing good working relationships with a range of stakeholders 
  • Able to prioritise and manage conflicting deadlines

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. This is applicable to new starters who join before the 1st of October 2023. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London.
