British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a CCTV First Line Support Engineer on a Full Time, Permanent Contract. The role is paying £36,529.65 per annum, plus £3,033.56 London allowance and 10% on call allowance.  The role will be based at our Ebury Bridge, London site with some flexible working available.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

The CCTV First Line Support Engineer focuses on the provision of pro-active technical support within our Control Rooms and Visual Services team, specifically maintaining operational integrity of the CCTV functionalities. This role plays a crucial part in liaising with our external CCTV providers to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve any infrastructure or network-related issues within the CCTV scope.

As a First Line Support Engineer you will be required to:

  • Supporting the Head of Visual Services Network and Infrastructure with ad hoc queries
  • First Line Support Engineer Digital Media / Helpdesk / Windows
  • First Line support for PC's/Laptops within the J&PC Command
  • Complete all aspects of internal support queries', ranging from hardware setup, network, application issues and general enquires.
  • Help develop and improve functionality or
  • Troubleshoot issues including out of hours both with clients, ensure faults are resolved and identify route cause to minimize reoccurrence.
  • Manage and support remote server infrastructure ensuring high availability and disaster recovery meet the business needs.
  • Completing daily check lists and identifying any issues which may arise.
  • Working alongside Technical Support Engineers and the Head of Visual Services Network and Infrastructure to implement new hardware/software and changes to the infrastructure to ensure 24/7 availability.
  • User and system-based testing new applications before implementation.
  • Provide motivation, leadership, and direction to the team. Ensure effective team management including but not limited to the PDR process, sickness absence and return to work management, time management, maternity liaison, occupational health referrals, health and safety assessments and poor performance.
  • Manage the induction and training of new starters, identifying training and development needs of current staff, and providing guidance and refresher training where necessary.
  • Ensure staff wellbeing and the fair treatment of all in line with BTP Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Further information about this vacancy can be found in the attached job description. The successful CCTV First Line Support Engineer will be required to evidence the following:

  • Workload Prioritization
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and Microsoft 365 is required for creating, editing, and managing digital content and documents.
  • CCTV Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of both IP and Analogue CCTV Systems, including the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues.
  • Windows/Intel (Wintel) Environment: Experience in managing servers in a Wintel environment, ensuring optimal system performance and security.
  • Data Management: Practical understanding of data backup strategies and their implementation, to ensure data availability and protection.
  • Network Protocols: Proficiency in networking, including a deep understanding of network protocols, design, and administration.
  • Video Codec Knowledge: Familiarity with various video codecs, their application, and optimization in CCTV systems.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills are needed for efficient and effective communication with internal teams, external service providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities are required, with a focus on rapidly finding solutions to complex technical issues and challenges.
  • Knowledge of Windows server environment. This includes experience with Windows Server operating systems, server roles and features, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and other related components.
  • Knowledge of CCTV products, including different types of cameras, recording devices, and video management systems.
  • Knowledge of CCTV codecs, which are used to encode and decode video streams in CCTV systems. This includes understanding different codec formats, compression techniques, and their impact on video quality and storage requirements.
