British Transport Police are looking to recruit a Procurement Manager on a permanent contract to join our Commercial and Procurement Team. 

The starting salary for this role is £43,052.57 plus £2835.11 London Allowance (applicable if London-based only) plus £7000.00 Market Supplement per annum.

This role can be based at our Force Headquarters in Camden, London or at one of our other main centres located in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff or Glasgow. However, as we are a national force, we are open to discussing other suitable alternative working locations. Please note that we are currently adopting a blended working approach, which includes home and office working, so we are also open to discussion regarding a flexible and agile approach to duties. You may also be expected to travel for business requirements where necessary.

It is an exciting time to join the Commercial and Procurement team at BTP as we continue to support front line policing and move towards supporting the transformation of the UK rail network as set out in the Williams-Shapps report. 

As Procurement Manager at BTP, you will take a lead role in the continued development of the Force Procurement Strategy and in delivering a high quality procurement service for BTP. 

As Procurement Manager, you will be required to:

  • Support the continued development of the corporate procurement strategy, which complies with the statutory and regulatory framework.
  • Provide procurement expertise and advice.
  • Undertake supply chain analysis and maintain a holistic approach to supply chain management for the BTP/BTPA.
  • Ensure procurement compliance and managing risk.
  • Review existing contracts on a regular basis.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Provide accurate and relevant input to business project plans.

The successful Procurement Manager will be required to evidence the following skills:

  • CIPS qualified or working towards full qualification or possess an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in a commercial or procurement environment.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation skills along with experience in project management.
  • Knowledge of public sector/government regulatory framework.
  • Good understanding of financial planning frameworks, procurement strategies and techniques.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
