A Senior Channels Manager is required for a 12-month fixed term contract role (with the likelihood of going permanent) paying £47,359.27 plus £2835.11 London Allowance (applicable if London-based only) per annum with British Transport Police (BTP). BTP have an agile working model and the post holder will work primarily from home with occasional days at any one of the following BTP Hubs: Camden; London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff or Glasgow.

As Senior Channels Manager, you will lead BTP to utilise multiple communication channels that facilitate conversations and nurture communities - to help colleagues understand how their work contributes to our purpose. Put simply, the post-holder with help us connect – to each other and to BTP.

You will work closely with the Head of Internal Communications to deliver multiple projects, partnering with and coaching our internal stakeholders to improve and enhance internal communications and engagement.

As Senior Channels Manager, you will be required to:

  • Develop a best practice internal communications channel approach, that is insight-led and focussed on reaching our people, wherever they work.
  • Lead the roll-out of a new mobile-accessible intranet to be delivered by Q4 23/24
  • Establish a clear purpose and objectives for each channel within an overall channels’ matrix, segmented by audience.
  • Lead the implementation of several new channels and assisting the Head of Internal Communications in prioritising channels based on impact to the organisation – this includes, but not limited to, Yammer, MS Teams, Culture Amp.
  • Deputise for the Head of Internal Communications on all Channels decisions and meetings, where appropriate.
  • Drive and embed a robust insight and audience-based approach across the team, with ownership of an insight dashboard, to support insight-led conversations with stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be required to evidence the following:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience
  • Significant experience in advising senior stakeholders in relation to Internal Communications
  • Experience of developing channels for disparate workforces, with a clear understanding of their unique communication challenges
  • Experience of successfully implementing and growing an Employee Social Network, preferably Yammer
  • Membership to Institute of Internal Communications (IoIC) (preferred)
  • Qualification from CIPR or IoIC (preferred)
  • Fluency in Welsh language, written and verbal is desirable

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
