We are recruiting for a Technology Service Desk Operative on a permanent contract role paying up to £34,528,33 with British Transport Police (BTP) based in Force Headquarters, Camden, London.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year.

As Technology Service Desk Operative you will ensure the processing and coordination of appropriate and timely responses to incident reports, including channelling requests for help to appropriate functions for resolution, monitoring resolution activity, and keeping clients appraised of progress towards service restoration. The resolution (both reactive and proactive) of problems throughout the information system lifecycle, including classification, prioritisation and initiation of action, documentation of root causes and implementation of remedies to prevent future incidents.

The successful Technology Service Desk Operatives  will be required to evidence the following skills & qualifications.

  • Accredited to ITIL Foundation Level or higher
  • A good standard of general education
  • Good experience of working in a busy Technical Service Desk environment providing 1st and 2nd line support for a broad range of mission critical systems and services.
  • Good knowledge of best practice customer service processes

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
