Safeguarding Officer within the County Lines Taskforce (CLTF) is required for a FIXED TERM CONTRACT role paying £34,139.86 per annum, plus £2,835.11 London Allowance per annum with the British Transport Police (BTP) based in FHQ Crime, Ivason House.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As CLTF Safeguarding Officer with BTP you will be part of the County Lines Task Force Safeguarding Unit and support the prepare, protect, prevent functions of policing. The purpose of this role is to strengthen existing subject matter expertise and improve preventative and statutory responses to exploitation, slavery and trafficking. Safeguarding is a key priority for British Transport Police in their work to tackle exploitation including County Lines, Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.

 

As a CLTF Safeguarding Officer you will be required to:

  • Consult and provide specialist statutory safeguarding expertise on operational activity being undertaken by the British Transport Police (primarily as part of Op Defiant County Lines Task Force), liaise and build relationships with statutory and voluntary partners to ensure statutory safeguarding requirements are met and preventative responses developed across the rail network
  • Support the active investigation and safeguarding of children known to British Transport Police including liaison, gathering information, analysis and recommendations pertaining to their effective safeguarding
  • Coordinate with other agencies to ensure children, young people and vulnerable adults have effective plans in place to protect them and their families and support the investigation into crime
  • Create and deliver bespoke interventions dependent upon identified service need, including but not limited to delivering bespoke training and learning sessions, developing guidance and resources and providing consultation expertise to rail partners

 

Further information about this vacancy can be found in the attached job description. The successful CLTF Safeguarding Officer will be required to evidence the following:

  • The role requires a professional qualification/registration including Social Worker, youth justice, Teacher, Nurse, Probation Officer or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work with multiple partners across relevant professional disciplines, to achieve collaborative responses for individuals, groups and locations
  • Ability to recognise vulnerable children and adults, and the required response to ensure safeguarding activity is proportionate and robust and in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Ability to work flexibly on a national basis with a range of staff at various levels across organisations. This will include extensive travel and overnight stays away from home.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
