Force Control Room Birmingham (FCRB) Team Manager is required for a Permanent, Part Time (17 hours) role paying £37,596.49 (Pro-Rota) per annum, 20% Shift Allowance and plus £1,500 (Pro-Rata) Market Supplement with the British Transport Police (BTP) based in Baskerville House, Birmingham

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As FCRB Team Manager with BTP you will provide supervision in all aspects of control room contact handling/ radio dispatch. Supporting the Force Incident Manager and Deputy Force Incident Manager (London or Birmingham) with the management of force priority incidents. Providing incident and event management, where not a force priority, ensuring the appropriate police response and actions are provided. Line management of a team of Communication Officers to ensure compliance with departmental KPIs and HMIC standards in the delivery of an appropriate police response.

As FCRB Team Manager you will be required to:

  • Provide visible incident management of those incidents not overseen by the Force Incident Manager, with real time direction provided on incident log entries as needed.
  • Monitor radio, telephone traffic ensuring that the contacts are handled within agreed performance standards.
  • Assist the Force Incident manager and Deputy Force Incident Manager in the supervision of force priority incidents when required; these will include Major and Critical incidents.
  • Undertake agreed audits of Command and Control incidents, ensuring compliance with NSIR standards and appropriate summary narrative is provided as needed.
  • Provide first line supervisory management for Communications Officers including completing PDR's and setting personal development plans as well as attendance management/performance policies

  • Qualifications and Training: Education to GCSE level or equivalent - Grade A-C in English or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a Control Room environment as a Communications Officer
  • Will have comprehensive experience within a supervisory position and demonstrate a high standard of performance within this activity.
  • Will have a high standard of communication skills, able to quickly exchange information accurately, promptly and concisely.
