A Head of Infrastructure Services is required for a permanent role paying up to £69,296.03 (inc of allowances) with British Transport Police (BTP) based in Camden, London.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As Head of Infrastructure Services you will be designing, influencing, enabling and delivering the overall vision and strategy of the Infrastructure platforms operating within Technology department. This role supports services and delivery to the requirements Digital Policing and transformation required in the short, medium and long term. The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and management for the Infrastructure platforms that sets vision and direction for our applications through identifying infrastructure service requirements to support business platform capability.

As Head of Infrastructure Services you will:

  • Be responsible for infrastructure related expenditure including servers, backup platforms and operating software products, capital and revenue, in excess of £1million per annum.
  • Effectively line manage 8 direct reports within the Infrastructure team
  • Provide continual service improvement plans to ensure the IT infrastructure supports business needs.
  • Manage the performance of systems and services in terms of their contribution to business performance, their financial costs and sustainability. 

The successful Head of Infrastructure Services will be required to evidence the following skills & qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level in a specific IT or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience of leading and developing a multi-disciplinary technical support team in a demanding environment
  • Proven experience in managing complex IT budgets, both revenue and capital
  • Ability to lead and develop multi-disciplinary technical teams

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised. The earliest this will be is June 2023.
