An Internal Communications Executive Apprentice is required for a 15-month fixed term contract paying £27,174.00 plus £2835.11 London Allowance per annum (applicable if London-based only) with British Transport Police (BTP). BTP have an agile working model and the post holder will work primarily from home with occasional days at any one of the following BTP Hubs: Camden; London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff or Glasgow.

As Internal Communications Executive with BTP, you will be responsible for assisting the Internal Communications team in delivering BTP’s strategy by providing tactical support whilst undertaking a Level 4 apprenticeship. This includes managing integral day-to-day tasks, administration and logistics to support the rest of the team in leading the strategy.

As Internal Communications Executive, you will be required to:

  • Co-ordinate content for a wide variety of channels, including: the intranet, email/dot digital, Yammer, employee listening platforms, posters and branding across our estates, and events.
  • Take responsibility for all Yammer Office 365 administration (experience of these channels is preferred but not essential - an appetite to learn is) including: account queries, managing the ‘report a concern’ function, ensuring that stakeholders throughout the organisation have access to Yammer and use it effectively, including identifying ‘hotspots’ and ensuring the organisation is aware that additional support is required, and keeping an action tracker to ensure we are demonstrating we are acting on feedback.
  • Ensure that intranet content is regularly updated, accurate, relevant and varied, including copywriting.
  • Support the Channels Executive in the creation of a Channels Dashboard which measures audience reach, hits, comments and engagement to inform continuous improvement of the IC Channels strategy.
  • Proactively monitor the Internal Communications mailbox on a daily basis and respond/forward on queries to the wider IC team where appropriate. Light diary management and administrative support for the Head of Internal Communications.
  • Undertake the Level 4 apprenticeship in Public Relations and Communication Assistant (please see the attached course contents document for further information).

The successful Internal Communications Executive will be required to evidence the following:

  • Meticulous organisation with a proactive attitude
  • Experience of Office 365 including Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of writing and editing content.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail and good grammatical knowledge, as well as the ability to write in a variety of styles and to edit the contribution of others.
  • Sound editorial judgment when sourcing and creating content.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across the organisation.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Suite, particularly video editing.
  • Fluency in welsh language, written and verbal is desirable (if located in Wales).

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
