A Digital Workplace Specialist (End User Computing) is required for a permanent role paying up to £57,291.38 per annum with British Transport Police (BTP). 

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year.

Digital Workplace Architect is a grade C001, open to hybrid/flexible working arrangements, but we are seeking on site presence at one of our Area Headquarters (London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds or Glasgow) 3 days per week. 

No on-call will be applicable

Full-time only.

First stage interviews are planned to be either 2nd, 6th or 7th March with second stage interviews for successful candidates 8th and 9th March.

Digital Workplace Specialist (End User Computing)

We have a created a brand new Digital Workplace function within our Technology department at BTP, with a strategic goal to improve collaboration, communication, mobility, connectivity and productivity for our BTP family. Digital Workplace currently consists of 3 teams: End User Computing, Digital Productivity Platforms (backend of M365) and Digital Productivity Services (frontend of M365). 

The End User Computing (EUC) team is a third-line team responsible for the design, development and implementation of solutions and management platforms related to the administration of End User Devices (Mobiles, Laptops and Desktops) as well as the resolution of core problems or third line escalated incidents. 

We are about to embark on an exciting journey where we will be:

  • Moving to Modern Management on all of our devices.
  • Fully utilising the capabilities of our Microsoft 365 E5 licence agreement.
  • Aligning ourselves with the National Enabling Programme's blueprint for police forces.
  • Expanding our Digital Workplace Experience offering.

 This includes technologies such as:

  • MS Intune
  • Autopilot
  • MS Defender
  • Knox Suite
  • Nexthink 

The Digital Workplace Specialist will have a deep technical understanding and practical experience in one or all of the above technologies and will be confident with group policy management as well as creating and amending PowerShell scripts. They will act as the subject matter expert, providing expert advice within current and previously acquired technical specialisms and advising and guiding more junior members of the team and department. This role will lead on the development, implementation and configuration of Digital Workplace solutions and serve as a Digital Workplace SME for other departmental and organisational projects. The role supports BTP business objectives and policing strategy through the delivery and development of End User Computing technology and Microsoft 365 platforms, solutions and services.  End User Computing is a constantly evolving area and the Digital Workplace Specialist will be responsible for ensuring our Digital Roadmaps are implemented and projects are delivered in a timely fashion so that we can offer the best technological solutions and enhancements to our BTP family.

Whilst this role sits formally in the EUC team within Digital Workplace, the post holder will gain exposure across all Digital Workplace teams. They will be utilised as a resource within those teams where there is skills development opportunity or a resourcing requirement. This is applicable to all roles within Digital Workplace.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
