A Digital Workplace Architect - (Digital Productivity Platforms) is required for a permanent role paying up to £67,518.69 per annum with British Transport Police (BTP). 

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year.

Digital Workplace Architect is a grade C001, open to hybrid/flexible working arrangements, but we are seeking on site presence at one of our Area Headquarters (London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds or Glasgow) 3 days per week.

No on-call will be applicable

Full-time only.

First stage interviews are planned to be either 2nd, 6th or 7th March with second stage interviews for successful candidates 8th and 9th March.

Digital Workplace Architect - Digital Productivity Platforms

We have a created a brand new Digital Workplace function within our Technology department at BTP, with a strategic goal to improve collaboration, communication, mobility, connectivity and productivity for our BTP family. Digital Workplace currently consists of 3 teams: End User Computing, Digital Productivity Platforms (backend of M365) and Digital Productivity Services (frontend of M365). 

The Digital Productivity Platforms Team has a primary focus on elements related to the backend of Microsoft 365, the configuration and management of the tenant and its associated platforms (e.g. Exchange, Security, Compliance, Endpoint Manager, data storage and management with regards to SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams etc) and the data management configuration. 

Here our immediate next steps are to:

  • Fully utilise the capabilities of our Microsoft 365 E5 licence agreement
  • Review, design and implement the capabilities around automatic data classifications, sensitivity labelling, data loss protection, advanced e-discovery and compliance configurations.
  • Migrate from legacy on-premise data storage to OneDrive, SharePoint Online and Azure Storage.
  • Align ourselves with the National Enabling Programme's blueprint for police forces

The Digital Workplace Architect will use their technical and architectural expertise in these areas to play a key role in delivering the technical system architecture designs, testing plans and service transition documentation to realise the vision and strategy of the Digital Workplace function within BTP. They will be comfortable manipulating and creating PowerShell scripts. Digital Productivity Platforms (Microsoft 365) is a constantly evolving area and the Digital Workplace Architect will be responsible for ensuring our Digital Roadmaps are kept up to date and projects are delivered in a timely fashion (and in line with architectural principles) so that we can offer the best technological solutions and enhancements to our BTP family.

Whilst this role sits formally in the Digital Productivity Platforms team within Digital Workplace, the post holder will gain exposure across all Digital Workplace teams. They will be utilised as a resource within those teams where there is skills development opportunity or a resourcing requirement. This is applicable to all roles within Digital Workplace.

  • Fully funded Apprenticeships (which can include Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees) and dedicates 20% of your work time to your apprenticeship training/studies.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
