At British Transport Police, we’re recruiting for a Corporate Communications Manager, on a 12 month fixed term contract, to cover London and South East England.

We’re the national police force for the rail network of England, Scotland and Wales – ensuring the safety and security of nearly three billion passenger journeys each year. The work is fast-paced, rewarding and no two days are the same.

The salary is £34,139.86, plus £2835.11 London Allowance per annum. There is also a £4,000 annual payment for participating in the communications on-call rota for out-of-hours working.

As the Corporate Communications Manager for London and the South East, your job will be to promote the important work being carried out by our officers and staff to the public, media and stakeholders. You will work to produce an effective communications strategy for the region, supporting frontline staff and feeding into the national communications strategy.

This role offers a blended approach of home and office-working. You will be expected to travel to our London office twice a week.

As Corporate Communications Manager, you will be required to:

  • Develop and deliver an overarching proactive communications strategy for the region, together with a yearly planner of opportunities around known events.
  • Promote BTP positively through traditional, social media and digital media.
  • Develop contacts and relationships with key stakeholders, influencers and external bodies.
  • Participate in the out of hours on call rota by responding, when required, to traditional, social and digital media enquiries and provide support to senior officers and control room staff out of normal office hours.

The successful candidate will be required to evidence the following skills:

  • Educated to degree level in English, Politics, History, Media, Marketing, Communications or similar professional qualification.
  • Experience of developing and delivering effective marketing communications plans, strategies and campaigns.
  • Ability to produce press releases, publications and other written content and electronic material to an extremely high standard.
  • Ability to use social and digital media to its full potential to promote and benefit BTP.
  • Experience of stakeholder management.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
