British Transport Police (BTP) are looking to recruit a Business Manager on a Permanent Part Time (4 Days or hours spread over 5 days a week) Contract to lead and manage the day to day business of the Director of People and Culture (P&C).

 

The starting full time equivalent salary for this post is £39,877.88 plus £2,700.10 London Allowance pro rata per annum and is based at Force Headquarters in Camden, London.

 

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

 

As the Business Manager of People and Culture you will be responsible for the provision of high-quality business management to the Director of People and Culture.

 

Provide comprehensive and effective support to the Director of People and Culture in their day to day business as well as ensuring that statutory duties and functions across the portfolio are effectively fulfilled. Decide on the most appropriate course of action in relation to a wide range of queries, documents, reports and correspondence; drafting replies and presentations as necessary.

 

Manage relationships with key stakeholders on behalf of the function and identify and implement business and procedural improvements when required.

 

Due to the nature of the role absolute discretion and confidentiality is a must for the post holder.

 

As Business Manager you will be required to:

  • To manage actions arising from meetings, commissioning work and coordinate returns from multiple team members to deadlines.
  • To proof read and edit papers and reports, in particular ensuring spelling, grammar and sense making. Comfortable to push back if quality of work not acceptable to put in front of the Director of People and Culture.
  • To take minutes as required for meetings and where the Director of People and Culture hears grievances and appeals.
  • To draft letters and responses to inbox correspondence as required
  • To feedback on drafted policies on understanding and usability
  • To manage and support the Director of People and Culture’s daily work by undertaking research and planning; arranging and providing background information that ensures that the Director of People and Culture is always appropriately briefed and prepared.
  • To manage the Director of People and Culture’s schedule, organising meetings, making decisions on conflicting priorities, and prioritising commitments to make the most effective use of their time.
  • To maintain an effective professional relationship with members of the Director of People and Culture’s Management team ensuring that their strategy is adhered to.

The successful candidate will be required to evidence the following skills: 

  • Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Experience of managing a busy diary and conflicting priorities
  • Experience of successfully managing change and ability to learn new processes quickly
  • Experience of working on own initiative, and partnering with team members to deliver initiatives and business improvement
  • Experience of report writing and preparing high quality documentation for senior management
  • Experience of handling confidential and sensitive information
