British Transport Police is the national police force for Britain’s rail network, providing a policing service to rail operators, their staff and passengers throughout England, Wales and Scotland. Every day, over 10,000 miles of track, we keep more than 6 million people and 400,000 tonnes of freight safe and secure.

Our Contact Handlers are instrumental to helping the force, reduce crime and increase passenger confidence, by acting as the first line of contact for operational staff, members of the public and train operating companies. As the first point of call, for contact made via telephone, texts, emails and Twitter, we are relying on your ability to stay calm, focused and professional in your response.

Our Control Room is set to expand in 2016 and new opportunities will be available for those who want to help us make a difference and deliver exemplary customer service.

As part of our team you will provide non-emergency call handling and crime recording for the British Transport Police, and to act as first line of contact for operational staff, members of the public and TOC. Where an emergency contact is received, via non-emergency channels, to identify the appropriate grade of response and pass timely to the control room for the relevant police actions.

We need people who are committed, customer focused and able to work under pressure.

Our teams are critical to our success, driven to deliver and always go the extra mile.

Sound of interest, have a look and see how you can help us make a Difference.

To help support the safe running of our railways and be available at all time the Control Room is open 24/7 365 days. The salary is £19,526.14 plus 20% shift allowance.

We want our organization to be as diverse as the community it serves. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
