Designing Out Crime Officer

British Transport Police (BTP) are looking to recruit a Designing Out Crime Officer (DOCO) to join our fantastic DOC Unit at Force Headquarters in Central London on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified DOC Officer or an individual with an advanced understanding of crime prevention and community safety to join a National Police Force in supporting BTP's strategy to reduce crime and disruption on the rail network. The starting salary for this post is £27,145.68 plus £2,634.25 London Allowance per annum.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Designing Out Crime Officer you will provide specialist crime prevention and reduction advice to industry partners and stakeholders to reduce/ prevent crime on the railways including the risk of becoming a victim of crime in turn promoting passenger confidence across the transport network.

As Designing Out Crime Officer you will be required to:

• Provide a crime reduction response to repeat victim or vulnerable victim crime categories
• Administer the Secure Stations Scheme on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT) and Safer Parking Scheme on behalf of the British Parking Association
• Carry out site visits following every fatality or serious injury on the railway and make recommendations aimed at preventing future loss of life and injuries at the same location
• Develop and carry out crime reduction activities and events and market and advocate these services to Network Rail, Train Operating Companies, London Underground, Transport for London and other relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain a knowledge of research, policy guidelines, legislation, new products and techniques impacting on crime reduction and prevention, including protective security design measures and innovations in environmental and building design, community safety, planning and construction
• Research and prepare detailed reports and supporting media where appropriate, including surveys, briefing papers, meeting minutes and other responses to requests for information or advice from internal and external stakeholders or customers

• Relevant College of Policing qualifications, or can demonstrate knowledge of crime reduction theory and problem solving experience.
• Proven ability to negotiate, influence and develop strong working relationships both internally and externally.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver persuasive presentations to varied technical, professional and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to research, interpret, analyse complex information and to compile and provide succinct oral and written reports containing relevant recommendations.
• Good understanding of diversity and the legislative requirements incumbent on a public sector body with regards to service provision and health and safety

Please be advised unless applicants are qualified DOC Officers, they will be expected to attend a 2 week residential course  to undertake the Level 5 diploma qualification of ‘Crime Prevention – Designing out Crime’ with the Crime Prevention Academy.
