A Data Input Operator is required for a 9 month Fixed Term contract paying £19,918.63 with British Transport Police (BTP) based in our Control Room, Birmingham. BTP is the national police Force for Britain’s rail network. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

As a Data Input Operator with BTP you be responsible for inputting offender data supplied by Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and police officers onto the relevant systems. You will be required to deliver a high quality service in support of BTP's objectives and priorities in accordance with Force policy, legislative and national directives.


As a Data Input Operator you will be required to:


  • Examine data provided in TOC referral forms, to identify an existing Police National Computer (PNC) person record or if necessary create a new record
  • Process documents timely, ensuring data is inputted correctly into force systems working to agreed timescales
  • Deal with email requests from the TOC Bureau and provide information as agreed
  • Update PNC or relevant systems with investigations’ outcomes, process information received and ensure that records are updated correctly

  • Experience of working with PNC or similar computerised data system
  • Experience of working in Criminal Justice and in an administrative environment
  • Experience in exercising diplomacy, tact and discretion in management sensitive and confidential matters
  • Previous experience in accurate data inputting and record keeping
