A SQL Database Administrator is required for a Permanent Contract role paying up to £47,691.50 plus 10% Shift Allowance with British Transport Police (BTP) based in Force Headquarters, Camden, London.



BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As SQL Database Administrator you will be responsible for installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring, maintenance and tuning of physical databases. The role helps to optimise performance and availability of Force­critical IT solutions, working closely with application owners to plan strategy and define system roadmaps.

 

As SQL Database Administrator you will be required to:

  • Assist in assembly of Business Cases to secure funding for new products and major system upgrades.
  • Liaise with system suppliers, business customers and technical colleagues in pursuit of his/her duties.
  • Research and respond to logged issues, providing advice/training to users, devising corrections/workarounds where appropriate, updating documentation, manipulating data and defining database enhancements.
  • Maintain installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of physical databases.

The successful SQL Database Administrator will be required to evidence the following skills and qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Accredited to ITIL Foundation Level or higher
  • Extensive experience of working as a production DBA in SQL Server environments, and ideally Oracle environments, providing support for mission critical applications.
  • Good experience of performance monitoring and database optimisation tools and techniques and good experience of back­up and recovery tools and techniques.
