Crime Scene Manager is required on a permanent basis paying up to £31,358.78 (inclusive of London allowance)with British Transport Police (BTP) based in our Scientific Support Unit, London

BTP is the national police Force for Britain’s rail network. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff throughout England, Scotland and Wales. As a Crime Scene Manager with BTP you will be expected to attend scenes of crime. To record, investigate, examine and recover forensic evidence to assist officers in the identification of offenders. To advise of all forensic matters i.e. scene preservation, packaging, cordons and submission of exhibits. Attend railway fatalities, assist in the recovery of the deceased along with any evidence and to manage the forces forensic response at major incidents and crime scenes to ensure the recovery of all evidence and conduct a thorough investigation alongside the SIO.
 

As Crime Scene Manager you will be required to: 

  • Obtain and understand all relevant information relating to the scene, decide on the types of examination necessary, maintain control of the scene whilst on site and advise officers on scene cordons and scene preservation.
  • Be responsible for the implementation of dynamic risk assessments whilst on scene and put safe working practices into place to keep self and others safe whilst working.
  • Will be responsible for attending scenes of crime and major incidents, conduct a full examination to recover and maximise the potential of all evidence from that scene. To ensure that the scene is documented and photographed. All items recovered are correctly exhibited, packaged and that continuity is maintained and secure. 
  • Act in a supervisory role to Crime Scene Examiners and take overall responsibility of staff deployment and manage all serious/major incidents.

It is essential that the successful Crime Scene Manager has previouse crime scene work expereince and will be required to evidence the following skills and meet the below essential criteria: 

  • Excellent organisational, administrative and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and the ability to deal with difficult situations.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Good computer skills ability to plan and manage time, prioritise workloads.
  • Possess a degree in forensic science, other related qualifications and relevant experience in the field
  • Completed the initial Crime scene examiners course.
  • Full Driving licence.
  • Advanced knowledge of and has demonstrated sound practical experience as a scene of crime officer, (4+ years experience)
