British Transport Police (BTP) is recruiting for a Senior Occupational Health Advisor (Psychological Framework) on a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract £39,877.88 plus £4,525.39 Market Supplement plus £2,700.10 London Allowance (if applicable) per annum and is based at any BTP Headquarters including, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Leeds & Manchester.

 

This is a unique role for BTP’s psychological framework project, which requires outstanding expertise in Mental Health, Wellbeing and Occupational Health and significant influencing skills.  To work with senior stakeholders across the force, the wellbeing and Occupational Health Leads, and external support services to design and deliver the psychological framework project for BTP.

 

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

 

As Senior Occupational Health Advisor (Psychological Framework) you will be required to design and deliver a suitable mental health training programme to line managers, supervisors and employees.

 

Develop professionally suitable escalation pathways, psychological role profiles (supported by Oscar Kilo framework) and processes with clear communications for our people and line managers.

 

Line managers are the initial priority in the project with the aim to deliver online line manager mental health training to complete in 12 months, with a clear project plan to then roll out to supervisors and employees in the following year with ongoing training.

 

As Senior Occupational Health Advisor (Psychological Framework) you will be required to:

  • Deliver a regular programme of communications and meetings to ensure all team members are clear on what is required, report on and discuss service performance on a regular basis and take corrective action to ensure the required standards relating to the psychological framework are met, reviewing barriers as identified with the OH and Wellbeing team.
  • Lead the project and be the dedicated subject matter expert for the implementation of the Psychological support framework, providing professional and clinical support across the Occupational Health and Wellbeing team and guiding the Safety team in relation to risk assessment development to incorporate psychological risk and appropriate controls.
  • Develop, design and implementation of training, and Mental Health First Aid training (online) is a key criterion for the role within the psychological framework to develop line manager competence in having open discussions relating to mental health.
  • Develop the delivery framework for the training in collaboration with Learning and Development, with an emphasis on in-house competences to deliver mental health first aid training to line managers in 2021 and all staff from 2022.
  • Work in partnership with the People Service Delivery Team to enhance and upskill their knowledge raising an awareness of the support available and how to access it. Regularly attend meetings and provide relevant updates to People Service Delivery team on the Psychological Framework and objectives.

The successful candidate will be required to evidence the following skills:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and hold an OH qualification at degree level, or alternative experience operating as a recognised subject matter expert.
  • Mental Health formal training, post nursing qualification
  • Mental Health First Aid trainer/assessor
  • A successful track record of working to influence strategic leaders in adopting a culture recognising the importance of wellbeing and positive mental health
  • Successful track record as a recognised Mental Health subject Matter expert
  • Consistent positive achievement as an OH professional in a large multi-disciplined operational organisation
  • Experience of delivering a similar mental health framework in other organisations
  • Fluency in Welsh language, written or verbal is desirable

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
