British Transport Police (BTP) are looking to recruit a Senior Content Manager to join our Internal Communications Team on a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract paying £34,274.06 plus £2,700.10 London Allowance (if applicable) per annum and is based at any BTP Headquarters including; Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham & London.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

The Internal Communications team is at an exciting juncture as we transform the way BTP communicates and engages with our dispersed workforce. Integral to this, is a compelling and outcome-focussed Editorial Strategy that amplifies employee voice.

As Senior Content Manager you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of the Editorial Strategy and lead the Editorial Team to create brilliant content across our existing and proposed channels. A natural story-teller, you’ll have an instinct for what makes a good story that builds pride and connects our people to BTP’s purpose.

The post-holder will have a strong grasp of how content, including campaigns, can be leveraged to affect behavioural change and employee engagement. Audience -obsessed, they’ll make sure the content we publish is relevant, timely and provides a clear line of sight, so that everything we do clearly aligns to BTP’s mission.

The postholder will work closely with the Head of Internal Communications to be a trusted advisor to senior leaders on how to shift content from a ‘sending stuff out’ model, to a value-add, employee-focussed function.

As Senior Content Manager you will be required to:

  • Develop and deliver an Editorial Strategy that improves our employee’s understanding of the connection between their roles and BTP’s purpose, as well as pride in our mission. You will have a strong understanding of how effective communications influences organisational culture, employee engagement and behavioural change
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Editorial Calendar that encompasses campaigns, leadership communications and visibility, pride proof points and stakeholder/external engagement
  • Create exceptional, outcome-focussed editorial for multiple channels – making it appropriate for different audiences, with a digital-first mindset. This includes identifying content other than written copy such as video, GIFs, infographics etc
  • Ensure that all Internal Communications content amplifies employee voice at every opportunity, to foster a two-conversation
  • Develop, and be a guardian for, an internal tone of voice that reflects our organisation and is in a human and friendly style
  • Fluency in Welsh language, written and verbal is desirable

The successful candidate will be required to evidence the following skills:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience
  • A CIPR, IoIC or CIM qualification preferred
  • Extensive experience of writing compelling copy and story-telling for internal audiences
  • Extensive experience of campaigns – from conception to evaluation – that has successfully achieved behavioural change
  • Significant experience of creating and maintaining an Editorial Calendar that brings our purpose to life and builds pride among our people
