A Forensic Quality Officer is required until 31st October 2022, paying £27,824.32 per annum, plus £2700.10 London Allowance per annum, with British Transport Police (BTP) based in London.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As Quality Officer with BTP you will support the specialist crime department, to meet all requirements in relation to quality standards and provide specialist advice and guidance on all matters appertaining quality and accreditation systems. You will support the Quality Manager to carry out internal audits and ensure any non-conformances are actioned accordingly. 

As Quality Officer you will be required to:

  • Undertake required document control activity to ensure compliance with the QMS and associated international and regulatory standards.
  • Participate and lead on investigations as directed by the Quality Manager in relation to Non-Conforming activities.
  • Input, maintain and collate all relevant data to support the Quality functionality.
  • Actively engage and participate in UKAS assessments.
  • Deliver training in Quality awareness as required.
  • Carry out internal audits and mentor new auditors, assist the Quality Manager in the scheduling and control of all internal audit activities.
  • Operate and Manage the British Transport Police eQMS.
  • To provide support and resilience to the Quality Manager to ensure that British Transport Police achieves its objectives and meets all requirements in relation to Quality Standards.
  • To maintain and continuously develop knowledge and understanding of the different accredited unit’s functions to ensure policies, practices, and procedures meet the requirements to the relevant Quality Standards and Legislation.
  • Handle Customer feedback including Complaint and Complaint investigation
  • Able to work closely with different heads of departments within different specialisms, to ensure standards are administered, maintained and support day to day activities to ensure compliance with ISO standards as well as maintaining the quality management system.

Further information about this vacancy can be found in the attached job description. The successful Quality Officer will be required to evidence the following:

  • Has experience of internal auditing both general and technical.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear & concise audit reports and assist in the production of documented procedures, processes and policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels and with different levels of technical understanding.
  • It is desirable that the post holder has previous experience in working within an Accredited environment, preferably to the ISO 17025/17020 standards and Forensic Science Regulators Codes of Practice and Conduct.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised. The earliest this will be is September 2021.
