British Transport Police (BTP) have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Support Specialist on a six month fixed term contract to be based at our Technology Department in Camden, London.

BTP is the national police Force for Britain’s rail network. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The purpose of the role is to work alongside and complement the existing Critical Communications technical experts.

Key challenges and accountabilities for the role include:

•           To oversee of the delivery of Airwave into CrossRail and Thameslink (and other infrastructure/coverage related projects) providing project assurance and managing testing and handover to service.

•           To manage the lifecycle of Airwave devices and the use of the Airwave network including device audit, maintenance and repair, adherence to operating regulations and ensuring compliance with CESG requirements, maintaining associated documentation eg ADS and Code of Connection.

•           Managing the Lost or Stolen process including production of mandated reports to Operational Communications in Policing (OCiP) and CESG.

•           Support the Emergency Services Network programme.

Requirements for this role include:

•           Experience working in a safety critical, or emergency services environment.

•           Strong understanding of the Airwave service and the compliance requirements associated with its use.

•           Experience managing audit and production of reports for management information.

•           Experience managing a large and geographically disperse fleet of devices

•           Experience working with Tetra radio hardware, fleetmapping, voice recorders and ICCS

•           Knowledge and understanding of the Emergency Services Network programme.
