We are seeking an experienced Dedicated Source Unit Handler in the rank of Constable to work within BTP's Dedicated Source Unit located in the Pennines region that covers the North of England. Due to the area covered, the post can be located flexibly within the Pennines area and locations will be considered on a case-by-case basis on application.

The CHIS Handler assists in the recruitment and handling of sources related to crimes linked to the Force Control Strategy ensuring all relevant information is legally and ethically gathered and appropriately recorded on Force systems. The successful candidate will also prepare detailed risk assessments and be able to action the control measures around these risk assessments. They must be able to maintain awareness around current intelligence trends and offer advice and guidance to other Police Officers and staff in relation to good practice.

Initial Eligibility Criteria

Before the BTP progresses your application, consideration will be given to a number of initial eligibility criteria. Therefore, please consider the following before completing an application:

  • Candidates must be (or have been) substantive in the rank of Constable, or above.
  • Those applying on a transferee basis must currently be serving in a police force and be substantive in the rank of Constable, having completed the full probationary service.
  • Those applying to re-join service must have previously served as a member of a police force, having satisfactorily completed the period of probationary service in the rank of constable and resigned or retired from that force.
  • Candidates must be qualified as an advanced handler (L3).
  • Candidates must have experience working as a source handler.

You will not be eligible to apply if you have an existing CCJ or IVA outstanding against you. Applicants who have been registered bankrupt will not be considered. Failure to disclose any of the above will lead to your application being rejected.
