Occupational Health Advisor

British Transport Police (BTP) are looking to recruit an experienced Occupational Health Advisor on a permanent contract  to join our fantastic OH team in Central London; the basic salary for this role is from £33,438.11 to £35,572.46 (dependent on experience) plus £4042.49 market supplement and £2,634.25 London Allowance. This is an exciting opportunity for an experience OH professional to utilise their skills and experience in a unique policing environment for a national Police Force. Please be advised the successful candidate will be required to travel to other BTP locations across the UK; rail travel will be provided for travel to locations during working hours.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Occupational Health Advisor for BTP you will be a qualified RGN with a degree (or equivalent) post registration qualification in Occupational Health. The purpose of this post is to provide evidence based occupational health services to BTP officers and staff across the Force ensuring there is complete adherence to clinical compliance and governance in accordance with all relevant OH/HR/BTP policies, service standards, guidelines and statutory requirements. 

As an Occupational Health Advisor you will be required to:

• Provide comprehensive, confidential advice to managers, HR and employees and make recommendations on fitness for work/task
• Undertake health assessments and refer individual cases to relevant agencies in accordance with the service delivery specification
• To carry and manage a caseload dealing with complex cases when necessary, where the nature of the work can be rapid and unpredictable, utilising time limited evidenced based interventions for a wide range of mental and physical health difficulties 
• To undertake occupational health screening/ health surveillance in accordance with health and safety legislation and interpret results and advise accordingly
• Communicate and work collaboratively with the OH manager and internal colleagues as well as external agencies as required to exchange information in support of a proactive and timely approach to case management
• Attend and contribute effectively to all appropriate HR meetings and BTP operational meetings as required
• Produce update reports on all cases as determined by the service delivery specification 
• As directed, work on/ contribute to BTP Safety and Occupational Health Service projects to support their successful delivery 
• Maintain up to date, confidential and accurate electronic and hand written records regarding clinical activity 
• Make observations and recommendations relating to BTP OH service and practices 
• To actively participate in clinical supervision and receive feedback following any clinical audit

The successful candidate will be required to have the following qualifications and evidence the following skills:

• Registered General Nurse having a degree level (or equivalent) post registration qualification in Occupational Health (currently registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Parts 1 & 3 (SCPHN OH).
• A successful track record of giving occupational health advice, guidance and support to managers and employees including complex cases
• A minimum of two years post registration experience in conducting complex case management 
• Previous experience in undertaking safety critical medicals; including spirometry and audiometry
• Substantial OH knowledge including up to date knowledge of applicable legislation, best practice principles and regulatory requirements
• Professional, persuasive and influential. Able to command the confidence of senior operational managers, employees, trade unions, external partners and other stakeholders.
• Proficient in producing clear, legible concise and accurate case notes, letters and reports on OH issues, ensuring compliance with confidentiality, professional standards and data protection legislation.
