British Transport Police are looking to recruit a Senior Health and Safety Advisor on a permanent contract. The salary for this role is £41,539.25 per annum (inclusive of allowances) based in Central London, although travel to other BTP locations is required.


BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.


As a Senior Health and Safety Advisor you will be required to:

  • Lead and proactively promote a positive health and safety environment
  • Provide H&S advice and support to all relevant managers and employees
  • Educate, coach and advise staff in the review of risk assessments for new buildings, premises and refurbishments
  • Manage, direct and mentor Health and Safety Advisors in health, safety and fire issues on a day to day basis
  • Attend major incidents and provide on site health and safety support and advice
  • Carry out workplace assessments where necessary, including assisting with DSE, PEEPs, stress etc.
  • Manage, promote and maintain personal development of H&S Advisors
  • Undertake health and safety inspections and maintain procedures for reporting, investigating and recording
  • Prepare, conduct and report on H&S audits



Further information about this vacancy can be found in the attached job description. The successful Senior H & S Advisor will be required to have the following qualifications and evidence the following skills: 

  • A recognised health and safety professional qualification (minimum NEBOSH diploma or equivalent)
  • Grad IOSH or equivalent
  • An approved, recognised certificate in Fire Safety and Fire Risk Assessments
  • Experience of managing/leading a small team within a H&S role
  • Experience of establishing productive relationships at all levels with colleagues and customers (internally and externally)
  • Professional, persuasive and influential
  • Substantial knowledge of European and UK Health and Safety legislation and its practical application within a policing community and public service environment
