British Transport Police (BTP) have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Deputy Infrastructure Manager to be based at our Force Headquarters in Camden, London.

BTP is the national police Force for Britain’s rail network. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff throughout England, Scotland and Wales. As Deputy Infrastructure Manager with BTP you will support the management of the infrastructure and resources required to plan, develop, deliver and support the Technology Department and its products. This is a new role to support the Infrastructure Manager with key BAU delivery of Infrastructure small to medium projects; PSNP/Accreditation reports, patching plans, upgrade of servers, server capacity, SAN upgrades etc.

The suitable candidate should have experience of leading a technical team and budget management as well as excellent stakeholder relationship skills with exposure of the following technologies:

Firewalls ­ Juniper or recognised equivalent

MS Exchange 2003 and 2010

MS Windows Server 2003/2008

Networking concepts (incl. security, firewalls and TCP/IP)

Oracle 10, 11 & 12

SQL Server 2005/2008/2012

VMware server installation and management


Key challenges and accountabilities for the role include:

•           To deputise and take responsibilities of 8 direct reports and 8 second line reports in specialist groups comprising of Networking, Messaging and Infrastructure.

•           To support the Infrastructure Manager in the development of continual service improvement plans to ensure the IT infrastructure adequately supports business needs and supports the strategic IT Mode.

•           Manage the performance of environments in support of the business.

•           Salary up to £53k (40,296 base salary + 10% on call + £2,470 London Allowance + a SFIA supplement of £6,175 dependant on skills and experience)
