Detective Chief Superintendent (Crime, Public Protection and Vulnerability)




Location: London with national coverage


Salary: £80,351 to £84,764 plus regional allowances and benefits


Role: Detective Chief Superintendent – open to substantive Chief Superintendent and Superintendents seeking promotion



An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Detective Chief Superintendent (or Detective Superintendent on promotion) to join our senior management team, London based with national coverage. The Detective Chief Superintendent Crime (DCS) Crime, Public Protection and Vulnerability, will lead the development and implementation of strategic policy, procedures and practice designed to help us change our policing style to one which moves away from volume crime and focuses on threat risk and harm, vulnerability and public protection.

 

The post holder will build and develop an approach to crime, public protection and vulnerability that takes into account and is supportive of our unique position as a national police force. They will create vital links into Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) supporting and supplementing Home Office MAPPA policy and procedures, focusing on the critical areas of vulnerability and safeguarding on the rail network that include suicide prevention and mental health. They will build and maintain force-wide visibility of key issues and concerns, using this to develop best practice and new procedures through briefing, training and internal communications campaigns.

  

The role will involve leading the development of policy and practice in relation to critical vulnerability and safeguarding issues, such as sexual offences, domestic abuse, child safeguarding, adult safeguarding, hate crime, child sexual exploitation, modern day slavery, honour-based violence, forced marriage and female genital mutilation. This will involve undertaking internal reviews in support of multi-agency safeguarding and representing BTP at critical multi-agency De-briefs. The DCS will develop and maintain stakeholder engagement with critical friends to deliver first class protection for vulnerable people.


Throughout this process you will be assessed against the Competency and Values Framework.

 

Essential Criteria

 

  • Experienced Chief Superintendent or Superintendent
  • Qualified Senior Investigating Officer experienced in managing major investigations
  • An exceptional understanding of vulnerability and public protection with experience of implementing policies and procedures of this nature within policing
  • An exceptional leader with experience of developing and implementing significant change
  • Exceptional negotiating skills, with the ability to influence senior management within and external to policing
  • An excellent understanding of BTP’s operating environment and how this might impact on key priorities relating to vulnerability and public protection.

  

Eligibility Criteria

 

In order to be considered you MUST meet all of the eligibility requirements:

 

  • Have served as a substantive Superintendent / Chief Superintendent for 12 months or more
  • Have attained at minimum an overall ‘Good’ rating on your most recent PDR / Right Track review OR equivalent if you are an external candidate.
  • Be able to demonstrate the competencies required of a Chief Superintendent
  • Not be subject to, or have any outstanding disciplinary sanctions
  • Not be in breach of the sickness policy i.e. on a Stage 2 warning (or above) OR equivalent if you are an external candidate.
  • Have completed all mandatory training

Please note: For applicants that are substantive in the rank of Chief Superintendent all of the above will be applicable to you and we will require you to have served at least 12 months as a Chief Superintendent.
