Fatality Investigator are required for a PERMANENT role paying £22,626.98 with British Transport Police (BTP) based at Nottingham.

BTP is the national police Force for Britain’s rail network. Every day we ensure the safety and security of over six million passengers and railway staff throughout England, Scotland and Wales. As a Fatality Investigator with BTP you the post holder will investigate and administer all categories of fatality (Major Incident, road rail incursion, workplace death, unexplained death, sudden death, non-suspicious death) and provide the appropriate level of response and minimum standard of investigation for each to ensure a full well presented case is completed in conjunction with and on behalf of the coroner and the Police.

As a Fatality Investigator you will be required to:

• Receive reports of sudden /unnatural deaths especially those which may have occurred in suspicious circumstances, examine the deceased and /or scene of death and ensure identification of the body is conducted by a relative or friend or by other means i.e. fingerprinting, dental records etc ensuring the local force sudden death report is complete.

• Notify the Coroner of all case making sure that he/she is informed of all the relevant details; liase with detectives if there is any possibility of a criminal investigation.

• Arrange for the death certificate to be issued advising the Coroner accordingly and for the body to be removed to the mortuary taking possession of the deceased persons property if appropriate. Catalogue the details and identify the body to the pathologist ensuring he/she is aware of the circumstances of the death and assist with the post mortem.

The successful Fatality Investigator will be required to evidence the following skills:

• Must be confident, self motivated and flexible

• Previous Investigation experience.

• Ability to compile comprehensive reports and files.
