We currently have an exciting opportunity for a substantive Sergeant to join our Suicide Prevention and Mental Health (SPMH) team in central Birmingham (B1).

Our Suicide Prevention and Mental Health teams bring together Police Officers, staff, support agencies, and psychiatric medical professionals to signpost people to support and to put in place prevention plans for those who are vulnerable. We also provide advice and guidance to operational officers and staff in relation to suicide prevention and mental health-related incidents to ensure the most appropriate follow-up is undertaken.

The successful candidate will supervise SPMH staff, ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources relating to all activities and incidents managed within the department. You will ensure that all activity is in accordance with local goals and Force strategy, maintaining a liason with higher management to ensure that information is passed upwards and that support is available.

Eligibility Criteria:

In order to be considered for this role, applicants must meet the below initial eligibility requirements:

  • Substantive in the rank of Sergeant
  • Candidates must currently be serving in a Home Office force, or have served in a Home Office force within the previous two years
  • Candidates who have a current unsatisfactory performance review and/or a performance action plan in place may be rejected during the initial eligibility screening process
  • Candidates must have no current findings of guilt in respect of any disciplinary actions or complaints
  • All mandatory training must be up to date

You will not be eligible to apply if you have an existing CCJ or IVA outstanding against you. Applicants who have been registered bankrupt will not be considered. Failure to disclose any of the above will lead to your application being rejected.
