British Transport Police (BTP) are looking to recruit two Security Officers on a permanent contract paying up to £23,355.08 per annum (inclusive of London Allowance) plus 20% Shift Allowance. The successful candidates would be based at Blundell Street, Central London (N7) although will be required to cover shifts at our Force Headquarters in Camden on occasion.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Security Officer you will provide a 24/7 security service to BTP and act as a focal point of contact for all staff and visitors to our premises.

As a Security Officer you will be required to:

  • Provide a 24/7 security and reception service to the FHQ premises including internal and external patrols and evening lock-up
  • Afford access to occupants and verify identification of visitors and contractors and inform departmental contacts upon arrival
  • Perform Health and Safety Inspections, Fault Patrols and testing of safety critical systems. Enforce no smoking and clear desk policies
  • Act as fire warden for ground and basement floors and liaise with emergency services during an emergency situation
  • Monitor CCTV and liaise with BTP and Met Police regarding CCTV footage of incidents
  • Perform weekly test of disabled toilet alarms, PA system, External door alarms, emergency lift communications system and fire fighting lift intercom system

The successful Security Officer will be required to evidence the following skills/experience:

  • Previous security experience
  • Perform duties in accordance with guidelines and procedures but also when necessary work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure, deal quickly with issues and liaise with emergency services/visitors/employees.

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
