An Infrastructure Support Engineer is required for a Permanent Contract role paying up to £45,327.08 with British Transport Police (BTP) based in Force Headquarters, Camden, London.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.


As an Infrastructure Support Engineer you will be responsible for the technical support and maintenance of all infrastructure services, including but not limited to the management of Active Directory, Azure services, DNS, DHCP and Remote Access solution.

The authorisation and monitoring of access to IT infrastructure in accordance with established organisational policy. Investigation of unauthorised access, compliance with relevant legislation and the performance of other administrative duties as required.

The resolution (both reactive and proactive) of problems throughout the information system lifecycle, including classification, prioritisation and initiation of action, documentation of root causes and implementation of remedies to prevent future incidents.

Creating and maintaining user accounts (in compliance with the Joiners, Leavers and Movers policies)

Creating and maintaining RBAC, OU structure, Group policies, access to Infrastructure services (storage, backup, networking, Azure) and assist other technical specialists with their day to day duties which fall within the scope of your technical specialism.


As Infrastructure Support Engineer you will be required to:

  • Provide primary technical support of Active Directory across an estate compromising over 300 servers across 147 locations.
  • Proactively and reactively resolve problems through the information system lifecycle, including’ classification, prioritisation and the initiation of action.
  • Document of root causes and implantation of remedies to prevent future incidents.
  • Influence both internally and externally and make decisions which influence the success of projects and team objectives.

The successful Infrastructure Support Engineer will be required to evidence the following skills & qualifications:


  • Educated to degree level of equivalent experience/Accredited to ITIL Foundations Level or higher
  • Good experience of managing an Active Directory implementation in a demanding 24x7 environment.
  • Proven experience of providing 2nd/3rd line technical support to non-technical customers.
  • Good experience of incident resolution, requests, changes and problem solving activities delivered to agreed SLA’s.
