A Fingerprint Technician is required on an 18 Month Fixed Term Contract role paying £23,893.06 plus £2,634.25 London Allowance plus 10% On Call Allowance (dependent on experience) per annum with British Transport Police (BTP) based in London.


BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. As a Fingerprint Technician you will process and examine fingerprint evidence and custodial samples in criminal and fatality investigations and provide daily administration to the Fingerprint Bureau.


As a Fingerprint Technician you will be required to:

• To process tenprint samples, finger and palm prints received into the Fingerprint Bureau and ensure that best practice is adopted from sample inception to processing.

• To manage the administration of the Fingerprint Bureau, ensuring crime scene cases are received, prepared for processing and results disseminated in line with documented ISO 17025 processes.

• To monitor Force Policies in relation to fingerprint matters, maintaining and reviewing relevant operating procedures to ensure ISO quality standards are adhered to and updated.

• To make decisions pertaining to the identification of fingerprints.

The successful Fingerprint Technician will be required to evidence the following skills:

• The post holder will be qualified to a degree level standard or other relevant qualification.

• Experience of working within a Scientific Support Unit and dealing with the processing of Tenprint samples, including the related updating of PNC.

• Excellent organisational, administrative and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate both orally and in written report form with people at all levels.
