British Transport Police (BTP) are currently recruiting for a Technical Compliance Manager to support our current Property team to ensure BTP meet all statutory and legal requirements across our estate. This is a full time, permanent position based in our Force Headquarters in Central London paying up to £39,877.88 per annum plus £2,700.10 London Allowance.


Due to the unique nature of our work across the rail network, the successful candidate will have working knowledge of the Railway environment and at least two years practical safety management experience. There will also be a requirement to travel across England, Wales and Scotland as we are a nationwide police Force.


BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing. As Technical Compliance Manager you will deliver a professional, technical and compliance advisory capability in respect of all property related matters. This includes the maintenance, refurbishment and alteration of any existing or new BTP property. The successful candidate will provide crucial technical advice, assurance, compliance, approval and due diligence to our Property Services colleagues to ensure our buildings are functional, safe and efficient.


As Technical Compliance Manager you will be required to:

  • Satisfy all property related legal and contractual obligations
  • Ensure compliance with property related and corporate and departmental policies
  • Provide technical support to the department ensuring industry best practice and common technical specifications
  • Provide technical support to the contract management of contractors and suppliers ensuring value for money and efficient service
  • Act as Senior Systems Owner/ Manager for the evolution of CAFM system
  • Act as subject matter expert where technical expertise are required by the department
  • Act as central lead for reviewing all RAMS and permits prior to work commencement
  • Manage and deliver appropriate audits of supply chain documentation and systems

The successful Technical Compliance Manager will be required to evidence the following skills and qualifications:

  • Qualified building surveyor or qualified in an associated profession with significant practical experience of property management including property-related Occupiers’/Employers’ legal obligations
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate
  • Two years practical Safety Management experience
  • Knowledge of working within the Railway Environment
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and project management skills

BTP has undertaken a review of Police Staff pensions and as a result of this the Police Staff pension will be changing. The current police staff pension is a Defined Benefit scheme which is administered by the Railways Pension scheme. The new pension scheme which is launching is a Defined Contribution scheme which is administered by Royal London. The new pension scheme is awaiting formal approval and an introductory date is not finalised.
