Joining British Transport Police as a Police Officer, you’ll take on a crucial frontline role in one of the most challenging environments there is. We are the national police force for Britain’s rail network, providing a policing service to rail operators, their staff and passengers throughout England, Wales and Scotland. Every day, on over 10,000 miles of track, we keep more than 6 million people and 400,000 tonnes of freight safe and secure. It’s a massive task. And it demands huge amounts of talent and determination to succeed.

Our Police Officers have to be the best. There can be no exceptions. Situations can transform in a split second, so you’ve got to be ready for anything. Whether patrolling, responding to an emergency request, investigating criminal activity, gathering intelligence or reassuring emotional members of the public, you’ll always be highly responsible, highly visible, and highly effective. You’ll maintain order, carry out arrests and collaborate with the community to combat local crime at the grassroots. From fraud to murder, graffiti to theft, you’ll be there - wherever and whenever you’re needed.

To make the grade, you’ll need to relish variety and challenge. A natural communicator, you will be able to build instant rapport with people from all walks of life – whether part of a crowd, stressed or angry. Highly diplomatic and calm under pressure, you’ll be able to make decisions quickly and effectively and never lose your head in a difficult situation.

Don’t expect this to be an easy job and the hours can be highly unsocial. However, there are few others that are as interesting, exciting and fulfilling. You will also receive a fantastic benefits package including pension scheme, 22 days holiday and corporate discounts.

We are recruiting for intakes which will take place in 2015 to fill the following positions:

  • Aberdeen
  • Glasgow
  • Edinburgh
