Content Creator – British Transport Police (BTP)

Working as part of our People and Change Communications function, we’re excited to offer the opportunity to join our newly formed Content Creation team. As a Content Creator you’ll act as an in-house advisor on our online and digital presence. You’ll proactively gather and create content which will be shared across multi-channels and platforms.

We’re looking for people who have a passion for policing and who want to be involved in shaping the services delivered by a Content Creation team. The team will have shared focus on producing creative content including copy for internal audiences and our social channels, design, photography, video, digital, infographics, and animation. You’ll have a combined skill set across at least two or more of these creative services but would also jump at the chance of being provided with training and support to develop your skills further.

We have two permanent Content Creator opportunities available with an annual salary of £36,529.65 (plus £3033.56 London Allowance per annum where applicable). We champion a flexible approach to working, so these roles can be based at any of our UK Hubs: Birmingham, London, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, and Glasgow with a blended approach of home and office-based working will be supported. 

You’ll work as part of a team of four Content Creators and focus on assisting the delivery of our communications strategy to internal and external audiences. The Content Creator provides an essential service to the department and wider Force, acting as a subject matter expert and ensuring that innovative and creative content is produced in a timely manner so we can keep pace with internal and external trends and that all opportunities to win back trust and legitimacy are exploited.

The principal accountabilities of the Content Creator include but is not limited to:

  • Develop and deliver effective content using channel trends, audience listening data and artificial intelligence software to inform what is created and ensure that NTP/BTPA effectively communicates with the intended audiences and that content is purposeful, informative and outcome based
  • Devise content that is aimed at changing behaviour and perceptions; evaluate effectiveness, ensuring lessons are shared with colleagues and inform future content production. Proactively research and develop features or ideas for communication channels or initiatives, come forward with these ideas and initiatives selling them to senior managers as a good approach
  • Be a trusted advisor to the department and wider force on content creation, providing guidance on how to best use creative content to achieve a desired outcome
  • Develop core messaging for projects and communications campaigns that can be used across our channels and align with media work to ensure a consistent and effective communications output
  • Create innovative written and visual content including copy for our internal and external channels, photography, video, digital, infographics and animation
  • Produce and edit creative and engaging video and digital animations to provide interesting and informative content which effectively communicates with our audiences and encourages customer interaction
  • Support in the planning and implementation of multi-platform, integrated Force-wide communications campaigns; evaluate effectiveness, ensuring lessons learned are shared with colleagues and taken into consideration in future communications campaigns activity
  • In collaboration with the Campaigns Manager, produce creative content for internal, external and recruitment campaigns which build reach and engagement, building public trust and confidence and enhancing the reputation of BTP
  • Create internal content that focuses on amplifying employee voice across all our channels to foster a culture of communities where colleague voice is heard – identifying opportunities to use employee generated content where possible
  • Horizon scan to ensure the continuous improvement of our content and that we’re adopting best practice and innovation to grow our audience reach and engagement and to drive learning
  • Be a brand ambassador ensure that we’re talking with one voice and that internal and external brand guidelines are followed, provide training and support on BTP brand to colleagues across the force

You’ll also be required to evidence the following skills: 

  • A primary skill set of copy or digital
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills 
  • Video production and digital animation skills, with the ability to create effective digital content suitable for internal and external audiences.
  • The confidence and gravitas to offer advice to senior management and other members of the Force and Authority  
  • Able to work to multiple deadlines and shifting priorities. 
  • Ability to influence and persuade
  • Ability to comply with brand guidelines 
  • Excellent administrative, planning and organising skills
