Trainee Accountant is required for a permanent role paying Â£26,098.99 plus Â£3033.56 London Allowance (applicable to London-based candidates only) per annum with British Transport Police (BTP) based at any one of our main BTP Hubs (Camden, London; Birmingham; Manchester; Leeds; Cardiff or Glasgow). You will need to be willing to travel occasionally to other BTP sites other than your nearest BTP hub.

The successful post holders will receive professional training as part of an apprenticeship as well as on-the-job experience in Finance. You will work between Financial Accounting and Management Accounting in a structured way to allow you to gain the experience that you require to gain a professional qualification 

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As Trainee Accountant, you will be required to:

  • Reconcile and review financial transactions within the financial system.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements, quarterly accounts and ad hoc reporting.
  • Undertake in year forecasting of capital and revenue spend, achievement of savings targets and key financial performance metrics.
  • Raise invoices and purchase order management.
  • Support with the preparation of work for any external or internal audits.
  • Carry out ad hoc analysis to support decision making.
  • Assist in the production of periodic reporting.
  • Carry out credit control activities.

The successful Trainee Accountant will be required to evidence the following:

  • A-Level or equivalent in accountancy, business or economics.
  • A willingness to undertake professional accountancy training.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Highly numerate and analytical.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • A degree in a relevant discipline or work experience within a Finance role/team would be beneficial, however, not essential.
