Risk Management Lead is required for a permanent contract role paying up to £46,863.16 plus £2,700.10 London Allowance per annum with British Transport Police (BTP) based in Force Headquarters, Camden, London.
  
BTP is the National Police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As a Risk Management Lead with BTP you will manage the corporate risk management process at BTP, ensuring that risks are identified and assessed appropriately and reported to the Force Executive Board and Audit & Risk Committee.

As a Risk Management Lead you will be required to:

  • Ensure that risk is effective in BTP by managing the process by which business risks are identified, assessed, prioritised and mitigated
  • Carry out regular horizon scanning to identify emerging threats and opportunities to BTP and BTPA and communicate these to the Head of Audit & Assurance and Heads of Department
  • Provide advice to practitioners / leaders on the management of risk, including risk appetite, through oversight of the strategic and functional risk registers to ensure that controls and further actions are appropriate
  • Maintain the Strategic Risk Register and Force Risk Register, reporting to the Force Executive Board and the Audit Committee on:
  • the identification of new threats / opportunities
  • the design and operating effectiveness of key controls
  • the escalation of risks / issues
  • To research best practise and maintain up to date knowledge of risk management techniques to ensure BTP meets its responsibilities for risk management and corporate governance.
  • To liaise with the Audit & Inspectorate Lead to contribute to the annual audit and assurance plan to ensure that this is developed based on potential risks to the force

The successful Risk Management Lead will be required to evidence the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience as a Risk Manager, providing professional advice and support to Heads of Department
  • Knowledge of risk management and assurance frameworks
  • Experience of conducting controls assurance
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work effectively under pressure and with high levels of personal resilience.
